Welcome to Raising Rookies! This is a resource for parents who are dedicated to helping youth develop quality family relationships, athletic skills, and an overall healthy lifestyle.
Many of you are like us, having questions when it comes to navigating the world of youth sports and exercise. Drawing from our personal experience, academic study, and mentorship by industry professionals, we are always looking for ways to improve on our athletic family journey. We definitely believe in unstructured, active play for children, but also recognize the opportunity for positive parental influence through initiatives like #take20. Spending just 20 minutes a day with our kids performing these activities can improve coordination, strength, focus, energy levels, and overall health!
We have benefited so much from athletics and an active lifestyle—we hope our children grow to appreciate the same. Follow our journey as we strive to maintain a healthy and strong family!
Dave: We are lucky to be led by such a go getter. Anyone who knows Dave can attest to his perseverance and “never give up” attitude. A former two-sport collegiate athlete, Green Beret, and Ironman, David enjoys playing catch in the backyard as much as anything.
Holly: Whether it is marathoning or mothering, Holly is always on the move. Her degree in Exercise Science (Go Tarheels!) and personal training experience lends to her creativity in developing her children’s physical strength and ability.
Carrera: This fast, fun loving girl is a born leader. She lives a balanced six year old life, often returning home from soccer practice to dress up and sing into her microphone at the top of her lungs.
Roman: This three year old hasn’t stopped moving since day one. Despite a tender heart, Roman often shows his intense focus and reckless abandon toward new experiences. His current interests - dinosaurs, “Who Would Win” books, and cars.
Magnus: This heavyweight baby lives the life of a professional athlete. He eats, sleeps (sometimes) and exercises (kicking, rolling, waving, jumper jumping). He loves stroller runs outside, and, did we mention that he loves eating?
